About the sharpening cycle for scissors!?
When I visit barber and beauty salons recently, a common question I get asked is, "How often should I have my scissors sharpened?"
The cycle for barbershops is different, but for barbershops, cutting scissors are sharpened every 3 months, and thinning scissors every 5 to 6 months. For beauty salons, cutting scissors are sharpened every 5 to 6 months, and thinning scissors every 10 months to a year. The sharpness and how long it lasts vary depending on the type and number of scissors.
The scissors you use most frequently probably follow that cycle. Recently, we've been inspecting scissors and sharpening them. During these inspections, we often find issues like everyday wear and tear, loose screws, or excessive burrs. How long they last depends on maintenance. Regarding thinning scissors, especially from beauty salons, I often hear that customers request not to use thinning scissors, or that many customers refuse them. When I ask why, they say that their hair is severely damaged, difficult to style, and combs easily get caught. That's why I hear that many people are moving away from thinning scissors. When I visit beauty salons, I find that many people don't sharpen their scissors. However, scissors, too, require regular maintenance. I once visited a beauty salon where the dealer told them not to sharpen their scissors. While the scissors themselves might not wear out, hair will definitely be damaged, so regular maintenance will definitely improve your work efficiency. There are also thinning scissors available today that are less damaging to hair.
